Description: M3 12" Trench Knife Reproduction, Historically Accurate & Fully FunctionalM8A1 Hard Sheath & Stacked Leather HandleWWII Special Forces Combat Knife ••• The M3 fighting knife or trench knife was an American military combat knife first issued in March 1943. It was originally designed for use by special forces such as Airborne and Army Rangers in need of a close combat knife but eventually designated for use by all soldiers and officers not otherwise equipped with a rifle and bayonet. Dimensions: OA in sheath - 12.5” / Knife - 11.5” / Blade - 6.5” / Handle - 4.5” The carbon steel blade is parkerized for a blackened finish that resists corrosion. The point is extremely sharp for piercing, but edge only moderately so. Originally the hard scabbard was fiberglass, replaced in this reproduction with tough ABS, with metal chape and throat. The scabbard is suspended from a stitched and riveted web strap with a wire hook at the end for attaching to the standard issue M1910 load carrying equipment belt. Entire sheath is original army olive drab. The cross-guard is bent slightly forward on one side to provide a thumb rest and improved thrusting capability. Comments: Very well done at this price. Historically accurate (see last photo of original issue M3 Combat Knife circa 1944, courtesy wiki commons) and fully functional.
