He then enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where he completed his studies in Architecture . Continuing his training, he took courses in London and then at the Solvay Institute. His reputation grew, and he built many bourgeois houses in Brussels. Nevertheless, concerned about the future of disadvantaged people, he created the Catholic Association of Linthout 1 with friends .His action during the First World WarFrom the beginning of the war, Philippe Baucq became involved in an escape network initiated by Belgians from the Mons region who helped wounded and hidden Allied soldiers escape from occupied Belgium to the neutral Netherlands . This network later merged with another, created by several women (Countess Jeanne de Belleville, Princess Marie de Cro , Louise Thuliez and Louise de Bettignies ) in northern France (Yorc Network Note 1 ).Philippe Baucq also organized the Mot du soldat which allowed soldiers on the front and families in occupied territory to communicate by exchanging letters. Finally, he was a zealous distributor of the clandestine La Libre Belgique 1 . Philippe Baucq was responsible for distributing 4 to 5,000 copies Note 2 .ArrestInJuly 1915, the clandestine network is dismantled. The wave of arrests of the members of the network begins onJuly 31, 1915by that of Philippe Baucq who, accused of espionage, was taken to Rue de la Loi for questioning and then transferred to the prison of Saint-Gilles . Then came the arrest of Louise Thuliez and then theAugust 5ththose of Edith Cavell , Countess Jeanne de Belleville and Princess Marie de Cro .
