Description: The White Doe of Rylstone, a long poem that Wordsworth considered one of his most important works, is offered here in a lovely1859 edition, with over thirty engravings, in fine leather binding. He found the story of the white doe in several collections of early British historical ballads and successfully worked it into a full narrative poem. However, since it didn't turn out to be one of the poet's more popular works, nineteenth century editions are relatively rare, especially in productions as deluxe and as well preserved as this very-good-plus copy. The full morocco binding is elaborately tooled and gilt, with some marks here and there, most notably on the front board, and the pages (all edges gilt) remain unfoxed and clean. Good find for those interested in Romantic poetry, 19th century book production, engravings, and early British history.
