There is a slot (believe it or not) in the lower jaw that we tried to photograph to show that there is a slot which holds the roller still while you are manipulating the jewel in the shellac. The way this works is that you put the roller table, which usually has a hole for the roller jewel into the tool. It is secured there by spring pressure (high up on the handle so the spring never warms up). So you put the roller table in the tool with the hole for the jewel sticking out the front. ALL ROLLER TABLES ARE EXTREMELY HARD! This is so they don't wear out under friction. A ROLLER TABLE SHOULD NEVER BE HEATED TO THE POINT WHERE THE COLOR OF THE METAL CHANGES. Therefore, the long piece of one of the jaws is introduced to the flame of an alcohol lamp. You only heat the roller table until your shellac melts and sticks to it. And then while keeping it warm you put in the jewel and adjust it correctly. This is really a simple job if you have this tool. This group of 5 roller table warmers will work on the tiniest wristwatch up to and including the largest caliber wristwatch. We have some others specifically for pocket watches. Any of these tools will do the same job as any of the others. The only difference is the look of the handles.
