Artist Biography Robert Cox (1934-2001) was born in Mt Holly, New Jersey. Cox studied at the Katharine Gibbs School of Art from 1953 until 1956 and then joined Mayhew Peakes Inc. as a graphic designer. In 1962 he moved to California, where he married Marjorie Cox in 1966. He found much inspiration for his floral paintings in California and became one of the most prolific painters of the 1970s and 1980s, employing the palette knife to create his stylized flowers. Cox was a founder member of the Art Workers Coalition
