Forged Hammered Copper Cauldron Snakehead Brass Handle LG. 10" Tall Wiccan Interest Measures 8 inches handle to handle by 6 inches tall to the rim and 10 inches tall with the handle extended Condition: Pre-owned. Absolutely fantastic vintage hand forged copper cauldron with brass handle. It is most likely Turkish or Moroccan in origin. It's probably not old enough to be a true antique, but it is an older vintage piece. The piece shows hand hammer marks on the bottom from forging. The decoration around the belly and lip are engraved. The design looks abstract, but the pattern doesn't repeat exactly. The forms look like maybe natural themes or the artist's name might be hidden in the design. If you look at the negative space around the fish shaped design, there might be something written there. The 6th picture from the top shows this a little better. What I can tell you for sure is that it is interesting. The two sided brass handle has been sand cast and features a great criss cross almost Celtic design along the body that ends in two upturned snake heads where it attaches to the cauldron. The number "13" appears at the top of the handle. This may be a size gauge for the artist to fit to a body, but it's also cool if you're into numerology.The body of the cauldron is solid copper. The entire thing weighs just about two pounds. So it's a really solid piece. The copper has been previously cleaned, but is slowly returning to a natural patina. So you are getting some firey reds and streaks along with the copper, which is just a really nice attractive color. The inside upper part has turned a lovely blue-green patina like the weathering on the Statue of Liberty. Copper has some unique properties as it's known to be a anti bacterial surface and a good conductor of electricity. Again, if you are a Pagan or Wiccan, this would make a fantastic vessel for energy workings or tool storage. There are a couple of minor dings in this piece. I couldn't get great pictures of the areas. They are there, but just know they aren't really noticeable.This vessel would also make a great pot to slide a potted plant into for decoration.
