Description: Vintage 1976 Georg Jensen 14K Gold Ring Rutilated Quartz Cabochon Size 8~Full Hallmark Stamps: DENMARK, GJL copyright symbol, deeply stamped BGP, 585, 585 again, but smaller next to two country export stamps that look like a ship's wheel and a bell. I can to take it to my jeweler because these last two stamps shapes are hard to decipher. On the underside of the stone setting is engraved: LONDON, 1976, and SCM. I bought this at the Georg Jensen Store in London at 15 New Bond Street, W1 in April, 1976. They told me that the stone is a Rutilated Quartz from Brazil. The stone presents as yellow, but in fact, is a clear quartz with dozens of rutiles that give it the yellow hue. One special feature of the stone is that when the sun shines on it, it looks like a light went on. The designer/goldsmith is Bent Gabrielsen Pedersen (BGP) who was a major Scandinavian jeweler awarded the Lunning Prize for design in 1964. This prize was instituted by Frederik Lunning, owner of the New York agency for Georg Jensen. The prize was awarded to eminent Scandinavian designers, 2 each year, from 1951-1970. The recipients were selected by a peer group from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Bent Gabrielsen created beautiful jewelery pieces, establishing him as a leading jewelry designer, invited to exhibit in many of the world's leading museums and collections. Gabrielsen was based in Copenhagen, Denmark and created jewelry for sale under the Georg Jensen brand. I have the original receipt from the London Georg Jensen shop which identifies Gabrielsen as the designer. The stone measures 16 mm by 12 mm by 8 mm high. I always wore this ring on my middle finger to prevent it from getting banged. Once I took it back to Georg Jensen's Chicago store on Michigan Avenue (now closed) to have it polished. Because of the shape of the ring, it is very comfortable. It could be re-sized, but care should be taken to preserve all of the hallmarks.
