Own a piece of original diner Americana history. The classic diner coffee mug design that we have grown to love was invented in Victor, New York. The design was the result of WWII bid for the US military Navy to withstand the constant ship movement; part of the design was the unfinished rough bottom to add traction and keep it from sliding. After the war, Victor expanded mug sales to diners throughout America. What made the Victor mug particularly easy to create was the quality of the clays, which were already used in many of their high-end insulators. The materials that kept coffee hot were the same ones that kept electrical lines from shorting out. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, the Victor coffee mug was common use in diners everywhere, and even today, the classic diner style design is synonymous with vintage Americana. In the early 1980's Chinese companies began to copy the diner style mugs and thus Victor began to stamp ‘MADE IN U.S.A.’ on the bottom of their mugs around 1984.
