Description: A vintage suitcase, perfect for a prop or display with key, offered by Snowdrift Antiques. This is a great old vintage suitcase. It would be perfect as a prop or for a display vignette. It has no marking on it but due to its similarity to a previous, slightly newer suitcase, I recognize it as being made by Kessler. It is most likely from the 1940s or possibly the late 1930s. This case features a mustard yellow/gold and brown with a grained pattern body. It is accented with a thick leather handle and leather edge trim. The nickel locks and snaps on each side are opened with a sliding button. Amazingly, after about 80 years, it still has its original key! The closures have good snap when opening and closing and lock/unlock with ease. The interior is cotton, which gives us a little clue about its age. It has faded from what was probably purple to a light mauve color. There are elastic pockets on 3 sides of the base and on the upper lid. The elastic has lost most of its stretch. The lining is intact and is not ripped, torn or falling apart. There are some clear (oil?) stains. The outside is in excellent condition for its age. The leather handle has significant wear but is still intact and solidly fastened to the case with brass hardware. There is some tarnish to the brass and nickel hardware, just as there should be. The bottom side has a large, colorless stain on one corner. The stain does not impart artificial color but makes that part of the case darker. I have not tried to do anything about it. Things happen over 80+ years. It measures 18 x 13 x 6 inches. This is a classic, very old suitcase just waiting for its new home to safely guard valuables or be put on display.
