Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a very unique and rare American D3 dynamic microphone made in Los Angeles, California during the early to mid 1940's. It comes with the rare original mic radio flag, short Belden cable & attractive Turner C3 model desk stand shown. This D3 model was first sold in the late 1930's I believe and was used for broadcasting purposes though it could also fill in as a mic for singing if need be. The D3 was a very popular design and looked very similar to several RCA model mics being sold at the time. This was a newer modern mic that broke away from the spring mic design. It had a built in shock mount and a practical lower yoke that allowed the mic to pivot up and down accordingly. This design was very popular for about 10 years until the microphone industry eventually did away with the lower yoke. A very typical 1930's / 40 design and the best part is that this microphone still works like new with a 100% signal rate. This mic is omni-directional and has a classic rockabilly tone as the mic is set at high Z and will do you justice if you're trying to replicate that old school jazz / blues / rockabilly vibe. The D3 is a fairly large and heavy mic being about the size of an orange. It has a brass body with an original dark brown finish. The mic is 100% complete and even has the original lower yoke and thumb screws. They really don't come much nicer than this despite the physical wear. The mic is free of dents, corrosion or fractures. Just lite scratches and scuff marks. Everything is tight on this mic. Nothing loose and the joint mechanism / yoke holds strong and allows for a smooth rotation to any degree needed. Tension is applied via side thumb screws. You can see that the rear American badge is still partially present on the mic and shows it was a Los Angeles model making it early to mid 1940's. The D3 takes a unique female 3 pin cable which is included and in excellent condition. The cable is a Belden 8401 model and appx 6 feet long with the standard vintage male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers. The rare original radio flag fits the mic nice and in very nice condition with zero damage. Just very lite typical wear. It's a standard aluminum design with black paint. This flag is specifically designed to fit on the D3 model microphone. I don't know what JAHCO stands for but I think the station is based out of Los Angeles. This flag alone is worth between $400.00 to $500.00. The mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have but the Turner C3 model stand shown is included and compliments the mic very well. The stand is about 10 years newer being from the 1950's but makes for an excellent platform being very stable and a great overall height. The C3 is an all aluminum design with a satin chrome finish. There is extremely lite wear on the stand and it has the original rubber pad on the bottom of the base. Total height with the mic and flag on top is appx 13 inches and the base is 5 inches wide. This would make an excellent display piece in the home, office or studio. Don't be afraid to hook this up to your HAM radio either and use it on the daily. As with all my vintage items...
