Description: Vintage Getzen Trumpet Super Deluxe Tone Balanced SN 88713 1957. The Getzen Factory burned many years ago, and with it went all of the serial number records of the horns of this era. Most of them were manufactured during the late 50s & early 60s, but that's as close as you'll ever come, in case you have an interest in dating it. The tone balance ring on the Super Deluxe is of nickel silver on a very thin bell material. Because these bells are so very thin they are subject to extreme crumpling with very little impact very fragile, That is part of the reason for the wonderful tone. Be VERY cautious when handling horn. The bracing on the Super Deluxe is of copper flat stock and on the 80 and 90 some of the bracing is flat nickel silver and some on the same horn of turned brass rod stock. The original instruments found with just such an embellishment indeed did have them added for additional strength at the rim of the fragile thin bell flare. If we consider that bells were hand hammered into their shape in the early days and that this hammering thinned the product progressively toward the bell rim as the flare was formed, it becomes evident why the old timers added just such a 'Kranz' ring. If this also had some added value in enhancing the tone, it was of course very welcome.
