His eyes are open and he is smiling like he is daydreaming. Signed and dated by maker on bottom: JC 78. Vintage preowned item is excellent. No chips or cracks. May have a tiny faint surface mark here or there attributed to age and shelf storage. Nothing that detracts from function or beauty. Attention to detail is remarkable and item has “antiqued effect” - a popular paint technique of the 1970s among hobbyists that accentuates subtle surface textures. Very nice.
