"Established in Milan in 1967, Fiorucci was the first retail operation to marry art, performance art, pop music and retail together and in so doing would be hugely influential on the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs and Dolce and Gabbana, to name just a few. By 1979, Fiorucci was a huge operation run by Elio Fiorucci. The New York City branch of Fiorucci was perhaps the most acclaimed in New York of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Originally opened in 1976 more as a showroom, the New York store, 9,000-square-feet large, was one of only three Fiorucci retail stores actually owned by the Fiorucci family. Until it closed its doors in 1984, Fiorucci was a haven for artists, designers, cool kids and anyone who wanted to be 'in'. But it also came to stand for something larger: a mecca where people danced during the day, shoppers paraded around like they were in a fashion show and celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Cher and Jacqueline Onassis came for the scene...Fiorucci was what many referred to as 'a daytime Studio 54' — a store that came to represent a unique aesthetic at a specific cultural moment." ***** --Full PayPal Payment is requested within 24 hours of purchase.
