Description: I have loved this Acoma pot since I purchased it in a shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1968. It can be enjoyed for its exceptional artistry and workmanship, as well as be a solid investment. I have wondered about its unknown artist. Only “Acoma NM” is written on its base. Over the years I’ve owned and researched this jar, I’ve not seen as delicate ornamentation as this and now seek a new loving home for it. This is a hand-coiled thin-walled white clay olla water jar, painted in dark brown slip over white kaolin slip ground. Circumventing the upper half of the body, the principle butterfly motif repeats 3x and alternates with solid and hatched geometric fill elements. It may seem fragile, but these thin-walled Acoma pots were built for use. Amazing artistry & craftsmanship! It measures 6 ½” in height, 8 ½” mid diameter, 6” top diameter. It has no chips or cracks, slight loss of painted design. The photos show all sides and top & bottom of the jar.
