Description: VINTAGE. This box was used as a "sample" box to show buyers what a full size cedar chest would look like. It's called a "STURDI" Cedar Chest.Made by Hamilton Manufacturing Co., South Street and Senate Avenue, Indianapolis, IND. Patented sample for large chests (Patents 1924 and 1925) It is 8" wide and 4" front to back and 2.75" tall. It has a brass embelishment on top and a brass circle on the front. The lid is hinged (brass fittings). The hinges are intact and tight; all sides are securely fastened. Cut pieces of flt are attached to the bottom as padded feet. Stamp on bottom reads: TRADE MARK"STURDI"(REG U.S. PAT. OFF.)CEDAR CHESTHAMILTON MFG. COMPANYINDIANAPOLISPATENTEDAUG-26th 1924OCT. 24th 1924AUG. 13-25 The bottom of the box has some minor wood damage (small cracks and one small chunk of wood is missing). These are surface effects only and do not impact the structure of the box.
