Description: In 1981 the Big 10 officially approved adding women’s athletics to the conference. 10 years later, in 1991, the Big Ten issued this commemorative patch to its female athletes. I was a member of the University of Illinois Marching Illini at the time, and a small group of us formed a volunteer band to play at women’s volleyball games. The team rewarded us by giving each of us the attached patch.
