Description: This jazzy semi-cubist rendition of a dark-skinned Jesus stained glss window is signed and dated lower right Floyd Butler '75. Measuring 30" x 24" overall; 26 1/2" x 20 1/2" sight, the work is painted on heavy cardstock and nailed to the reverse of a found screen frame that the artist painted silver. The artwork of Floyd Butler (1918-1975) is very hard to classify. Born in Lansing, Michigan, he studied art at the Meinsinger School of Art, Corcoran School and the Art Students Leaugue in NYC. He worked in Greenwich Village in the seminole post war years before returning to his hometown where he lived and painted until his death. Butler's formal training informs his sense of color and composition, yet his work shows a great affinity with American primitives and outsider painters. This work is in very nice condition with stable paint and no discernible losses. His sloppily painted silver frame is sturdy and there are streaks where he allowed the silver to streak te edges of the piece. The surface of the work is wavy as a result of the reverse mounting process using numerous tacks. WE ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SHIP WORLDWIDE IF ALLOWED BY USPS. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
