Description: This seldom seen vintage 1960's Tradition diver has a glossy black dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows age-related wear. The lume on the dial and hands, which emits a quick-burst glow on only the dial after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The metal hands show oxidation which in my humble opinion adds oodles of character. The black countdown bezel, which shows wear and rotates stiffly bidirectionally, presents nicely with the lume pip complementing the dial and patina beautifully. The all stainless steel case, which appears to have retained its original finish, shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SHOCKRESISTANT ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL CASE BASE METAL INDICATOR" with "100% WATERPROOF AND CONDENSATION PROOF TESTED TO A DEPTH OF 600 FEET" stamped along the inner edge and "SWISS MADE" followed by "TK" stamped in the center. The inside of the the case back is stamped "TK CO SWISS CASE." The crystal shows scratching. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "TRADITION WATCH Co" stamped AS 1746/47 manual wind movement is clean, keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over at approximately 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the sharply threaded non-screwdown crown 35 full revolutions the movement had a solid power reserve of approximately 43 hours. The crown winds smoothly. Although the dial says "AUTOMATIC" the movement is a manual wind. This commonly happened with small niche brands during the 1960/70's that would use mismatched inventory to assemble their watches. Given that this watch is more than 50 years old and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm. This watch comes on a three keeper 19 mm Tropic strap with signature "ACIER INOX" flared buckle that shows moderate wear and abrasions. The rounded long end measures approximately 134 mm while the short end measures approximately 70 mm, excluding the buckle. Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement shows no signs of ever having been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given.
