Description: James P Gallagher was known nationwide for his breathtaking photographs of the B&O, PRR, Maryland & Pennsylvania, and Western Maryland railways. In volume 2 of Vignettes of the Western Maryland, Jim turns his attention to filming one of his favorite roads on one of its most scenic stretches. Covering from Keystone, PA to Cumberland, MD, locations visited include Keystone Viaduct, Frostburg, Helmstetters Curve, The Narrows, Salisbury Viaduct, plus a brief look at the Thomas Subdivision. Filmed in 1974 and 1975, just before these routes were downgraded by the Chessie System merger, most scenes feature actual WM audio Jim recorded while filming. Motive power featured included the WMs F units and Geeps, RS-3s and SDs, as well as run-through N&W power and scenes of competitor B&O. Freight car fans are in for a real treat...As Jim often kept filming after the locomotives passed, providing an extremely rare record of 1970s railroading. As a bonus, a look at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is included. This first-class tourist railroad now operated the former WM from Cumberland to Frostburg, and has done a magnificent job preserving the WMs rich heritage. 82 minutes - sound - narration - maps - dvd-r format
