Description: "Vatican Brick" Sculpture by Salviati & C Murano Art Glass Modern Art RARE This gorgeous piece measures about 11" x 10" x 4". At the top of the base, it is engraved with the artist signature and is numbered 70/500. Salviati & C. is one of the oldest glass factories of Murano. Limited Edition # 469/500 After the production of the Glass Brick Windows for the Vatican City's new Audience Hall, Salviati &C used the same technique for making this sculpture. The glass windows for the Vatican City's new audience hall can hold over 16,000 people. The windows have a total surface of 143 square yds. and consist of glass bricks, all hand chipped on the showing surface, obtaining by the light refraction unexpected lighting effects. Established in 1859 their production can be traced through the history of the glass tradition of Murano. Museum pieces, mosaics, and real works of art are distinguishable for quality and design. Some works of Salviati & C. are displayed in Museum of Modern Art, the Corning Museum of Art of New York, and in many other museums and galleries all over the world. One of the most glamorous works in Murano glass history brought them the -Compasso d Oro-which is Italy's highest recognition granted by the Association for Industrial design. This fantastic sculpture has some yellowing at the seams but seems sturdy. I have shipped hundreds and hundreds of fragile and valuable items and always use the utmost care in doing so. Included also is an original brochure from the production of this historic art glass piece.
