Description: THIS LOT CONTAINS THE SCARCE 'WHITE PLAINS' SOUVENIR SHEET ISSUED IN 1926 BY THE USA , SCOTT #630, IN FINE-VERY FINE, MINT, NEVER HINGED CONDITION. The souvenir sheet was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of White Plains, an important event in the Revolutionary War, and was also first day issued in White Plains, New York -- hence thereafter known as the 'White Plains' souvenir sheet. We can recall the old White Plains post office that had two faded, but genuine, sheets on a wall display into the 1970's. Kindly see the photos, front and back, to view this souvenir sheet. This souvenir sheet is from the upper right position of the plate (normal notch in UR corner), has full original gum, and is in fine-very fine mint, never hinged condition - not a trace of a hinge mark anywhere on the sheet. There are perforation separations along the third vertical row of perforations (from right) resulting from a fold — approximately 1/2 stamp at top and 1 1/2 stamps on bottom. There is a small paper tear in the top selvedge, middle row. The centering of individual stamps varies from fine to extremely fine - overall as a sheet the centering is far better than most sheets. The 2016 Scott US Specialized catalog value is $600.00 in mint, never hinged condition.
