Description: Handmade (freehand - see asymmetries) master violin. Illegible label. Nut and saddle inside violin. Tailpiece, sound post, bridge held aside. Dendrology report:One piece front. 142 rings from edge to edge. The grain orientation runs from the bass ending on the edge of the treble side. The very last ring dates from 1869.The wood is from the Alps, and probably southern part of Austria or Germany/Austrian borders. Several regional references from these areas cross-match significantly. The most significant cross-matches in the database are: A c.1860 Neuner school Mittenwald cello, a French violin probably by Grandjon, a viola attributed to Scarampella, a c.1890 Mittenwald Neuner workshop violin, a Spanish guitar by Antonio de Torres, a c.1865 French violin of the Grandjon school, a c.1870 Mittenwald violin, a cello by Vincenzo Postiglione, a good French viola, possibly Derazey, a viola attributed to JB Vuillaume, etc. With a dendrochronological date of 1869, a manufacturing date from about the mid 1870s is probable. Please view pictures carefully.
