I have been selling amber fossils for over 15 years on eBay and do not sell fake amber only genuine material from now extinct plant sources not glass or plastic embedded with present day inclusions. This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization.This is a fully polished piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a Cretaceous true bug (Order Hemiptera) with a piercing proboscis that appears to be grabbing a small wasp! Perhaps the bug was attacking the wasp when both got caught in sticky tree resin millions of years ago. The bug may have spread disease. These insects are from the Cretaceous Period when dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops still walked! Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view. Burmite (Burmese) amber has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma). The piece itself weighs 0.8 grams with dimensions of 1.6 cm length by 1.3 cm width and 0.4 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch. I do combine items for up to 7 days to save on shipping costs. The saltwater test claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.However, many amber sources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical (plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are more dense than saltwater and so sink.
