Description: Just in case, no, this isn't the "infamous" tape where the band members are vividly cursing at each other as they struggle, without a producer, to figure out how to make a particular song sound better. Rather, the album was named Trogg Tapes to sorta cash in on the notorious tapes, which at that time only circulated on underground cassettes, but which now is at your fingertips on Youtube. This, though, released the same year as the first album by another Private Stock artist, Blondie, was a new set of songs by a great band, never properly rated in the US, who hadn't had a hit for 9 years at that point. All they did was keep trying, and always put out great originals and covers, and never were properly beloved anywhere but South Africa for some reason. There's a great 2-LP anthology of all their best stuff on Sire Records, though as it doesn't stream (at least on my service) I don't know if it ever made it to CD. If you're starting to see a punk/new wave connection, yes, the Troggs had a lot of credibility with the punk bands, who appreciated their direct and simple approach and garage aesthetic. The albums they made are all worth having! This particular copy is the first US pressing, a Promo white label copy, with DJ sticker on the front and an incredibly unsuccessful cover photo of all four of them looking morose at having been forced to wallow photogenically in a ton of discarded 1/4" tape. The vinyl is pristine (NM) and the music is tough and direct and you'd love hearing it in a bar. So have a drink and put it on.
