For more vintage pre-war cards, please check out my other items: About the Set: 1935 National Chicle The 36-card 1935 National Chicle Set was the first nation-wide distributed set exclusively featuring professional football players. The set was used to market chewing gum, and is generally regarded as being more difficult to find in high grade condition than baseball sets sold during the same time period, because the baseball cards were in higher demand and therefore more sets were produced. The detailed artwork and vivid colors used to manufacture the cards are what make them a favorite among vintage collectors today. Each card measures 2 3/8” x 2 7/8”. Key cards include Bronko Nagurski (widely regarded as the Honus Wagner, or holy grail, of football cards), Knute Rockne, Dutch Clark, and other legendary Hall of Famers. The set was produced in 2 series, with the 2nd series (#25-36) cards being much rarer and more valuable. Shipping and Handling: Item will be packaged carefully and shipped securely. He played college football at the University of Alabama from 1930 to 1933 and was selected as an All-American in 1933. During the four years Hupke played for the Crimson Tide, the team compiled a record of 34–4–1. He subsequently played professional football for six years with the Detroit Lions (1934–1937) and the Cleveland Rams (1938–1939). He was a member of the 1935 Detroit Lions team that won the 1935 NFL Championship Game.
