Description: Up for sale is a Very Rare, SIGNED First American Book Club Edition, (BCE), of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre. One of the Author's Most Popular and Beloved Titles, SIGNED Copies are Scarce and Becoming Increasingly Hard to Find!! Basis for the Film Adaptation!! John Le Carre (1931-2020). A Literary Giant!! Hardcover with its original dust jacket. Published by Alfred A. Knopf: New York, 1974. Boldly SIGNED on the half-title page by the celebrated author! NOT inscribed to anyone, simply SIGNED by the late, great John Le Carre! Please note there is an additional signature present on this page! Initially, we believed the other signature might be of some importance. Unfortunately, we have been unable to ascertain, with an acceptable degree of certainty, the identity of the other individual who also put their signature on this page. For this reason, we MUST proceed with an abundance of caution and assume the other signature is simply the name of a previous owner. The additional signature adds no monetary value or has any cultural significance. If anything, the additional signature should be viewed as an unfortunate flaw!Once again, we want to repeat that there is another signature present on the same page as the John Le Carre signature and we believe this signature is simply the name of a previous owner. A First American Book Club Edition, (BCE). Please remember this is NOT the First Edition/First Printing of this title! This is a BCE, essentially an early reprint of the First American Edition. Please also remember this is the AMERICAN Edition! NOT the U.K. Edition. "FIRST EDITION" is clearly stated on the copyright page so we understand that some individuals might be a bit confused and/or believe that this book is a True First Edition. We want to repeat that this book is, most assuredly, NOT a True First Edition. This book is a Book Club Edition with the key indentifiers being the BCE blind stamp, (square indentation), on the rear board and the lack of a price on the dust jacket. If this book was indeed a Signed, True First American Edition, our asking price would be considerably higher. I actually have a Signed, True First American Edition in my personal collection. I bought it many years ago and paid around a thousand dollars, to give you a general idea of the value of this book if it was a True First. Once again, please remember this book is NOT the First Edition/First Printing of this title! Yes, "FIRST EDITION" is clearly stated but this book is NOT a First Edition. It is a BCE. This rare treasure has some very clearly visible wear/age, but is still in Highly Desirable, Highly Collectible condition! The wear, however, is considerable and should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying. The book appears gently read and has no internal writing, no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT Ex-Libris. The binding is holding tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp and clean! Some general/shelf wear along with creases/scuffing/marks/wear to the spine/corners/boards, marks/wear to the edge/fore pages and creases/marks/wear to the pages, NOT affecting the text! Please note the wear to the spine/corners/boards, particularly noticeable near/along the edges, and the wear that is present on the pages, particularly noticeable on certain pages. All of the wear previously mentioned is very clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. While all of the pages are present and attached, one can clearly see some space/separation along the top edge of the spine! This area has been closely photographed for your consideration. The original dust jacket is fully intact but has considerable wear! Some general/shelf wear along with creases, scuffing, warping, marks and rips. There are also some large marks/discoloration on the inside of the dust jacket! Please note the wear on the spine, at the corners and near/along the edges! The wear, particularly near/along the edges, is very clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. We tend to grade the condition of our books rather harshly and took into consideration any and all wear when determining the value of this rare book. We purposely and closely photographed what we consider to be the most obvious and egregious wear. Once again, we want to reiterate that the wear to both the book and the dust jacket is considerable and very clearly visible! All of the wear should be carefully examined/considered BEFORE buying. Numerous photographs from various angles were taken for your consideration/inspection. Please closely and carefully view ALL the pictures for further clarification!! Payment must be received within three days or the book will be re-listed. Please feel free to contact us with any and all questions. We are very proud of our 100% positive feedback/ranking and offer an easy, no questions asked return policy so you can buy with confidence! Thank you!!
