Description: A very rare and highly collectable signed, lined, dated & located 1st edition / 1st printing of the 2nd novel from award-winning Sri Lankan author and writer Shehan Karunatilaka. His debut novel from 2010 'Chinaman : The Legend of Pradeep Mathew ' was internationally acclaimed and won several major literary prizes. ** On 17 October 2022 at the prestigious London award ceremony, after becoming the favourite to win in the final days leading up to the event, 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida ' was named the winner of The Booker Prize for 2022 ** 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida ' published by Sort of Books in London on 4 August 2022, standard modern hardback, 1st edition/1st printing, [xii] + 386 pages. This copy has been hand signed by the author at the title page, he has also dated & located it at 15 October 2022 in Cheltenham (which was the last of the 3 pre-Booker ceremony signing events - up until then signed copies of this book were not available; the Cheltenham event was 2 days before the award ceremony, the previous 2 days had seen the author at signing events in Bath and London). He has also lined this copy with the opening sentence of the book. Internally in As New unread condition. Externally in fine condition, squarely and tightly bound, light storage wear at the foot of the spine/lower gutter ends, modest wear at corners of dustjacket. ** This is a lovely signed 1st printing of the 2022 Booker Prize winning novel, with the very rare collectable qualities of also being lined, dated and located. The first printing run of the book was, by modern standards, a low total. 'The Bookseller' lead article, the day after the prize ceremony, advised that sales of the book up to being named the winner, had only been 3874 copies according to book industry sales figures. The publishers have refused to release details of the exact total of the 1st printing run, but by the day of the win, the book was already at the 5th printing stage, thus 1st printings were a much lower number than the total sales number, are now somewhat elusive and, of course, also now highly collectable. ** ** WINNER OF THE BOOKER PRIZE 2022 ** A searing satire set amid the murderous mayhem of Sri Lanka beset by civil war Colombo, 1990. Maali Almeida, war photographer, gambler and closet gay, has woken up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. His dismembered body is sinking in the serene Beira lake and he has no idea who killed him. At a time where scores are settled by death squads, suicide bombers and hired goons, the list of suspects is depressingly long, as the ghouls and ghosts with grudges who cluster round can attest. But even in the afterlife, time is running out for Maali. He has seven moons to try and contact the man and woman he loves most and lead them to a hidden cache of photos that will rock Sri Lanka. Ten years after his prizewinning novel Chinaman established him as one of Sri Lanka's foremost authors, Karunatilaka is back with a rip-roaring epic, full of mordant wit and disturbing truths. 'Fizzes with energy, imagery and ideas against a broad, surreal vision of the Sri Lankan civil wars' The Booker judges Estimated non-UK postage costs by signed for airmail delivery - Europe £18, Canada/Japan £25, Aus/NZ £27, US £28.
