Description: First edition (print number not stated) hardcover copy of The Nine Lives of Deaf Smith by Faye Campbell Griffis (Banks Upshaw & Company, 1958). Hard to find vintage Texas history book which tells the story of Deaf Smith - a spy, and military leader in numerous conflicts with Santa Ana and others in defense of Texas. By the author of Lantern in the Valley. With illustrations by James T. Jones. Jacket is protected in new archival sleeve but with moderate rubbing and scuffing to faces and wear around the edges - including chipping, creases and small tears. Ring stain to front cover causing some waviness and staining which is more visible on the interior than exterior. Old price sticker on interior of front liner flap. Pictorial front board. Slightly bumped corners and boards mildly bowed. Binding material visible in a few gutters and cocked spine, though hinges are intact and binding remains fairly firm on the whole. Pages clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos. Shipped Media Mail
