Description: Containing pp.262 plus appendix, two of four plates present (one folding) of four plates total (2 folding), full leather binding with full edge gilt. The English Improver Improved, Or the Survey of Husbandry Surveyed was written by Walter Blith in 1649 and was, excitingly, one of the very first attempts to put into print how land could be improved by good husbandry--this copy is missing its engraved title page and its letterpress title does not repeat this better-known formal title of the work. This text is of the third "much augmented" impression printed in 1652 alongside a new additional second part containing "Six Newer Pieces of Improvement", effectively rendering this copy a first thus. This printing was dedicated to 'the Lord General Cromwell, the council of state, nobility, gentry, soldiers, husbandmen, cottagers, labourers, and the meanest commoner' with the new information concerning crops such as woad, clover, sainfoin, lucerne. Blith's books on husbandry show notable good sense, based on the author's and others' farming experience, he presents his judgements and opinions carefully and made textual changes in subsequent editions to describe new farming practices.
