Description: “The Collected Papers of Otto Fenichel”, 2 volume series, printed 1954 in Great Britain with professional series dustjackets. The dustjackets are in poor condition, but the books themselves are in very good condition with no tears, breaks, or marks. The Second Series includes the original purchase bookmark from the 1950s. These books were purchased from the reference library of a Beverly Hills psychoanalyst. From the dustjackets’ inner sleeves: FIRST SERIES: In the world of psycho-analysis, the late Otto Fenichel was pre-eminently distinguished for brilliant scholarship, incisive powers of observation – and his book “The Psycho-analytic Theory of Neurosis”. The collected papers which form this book written between the years 1922 and 1936, and explore many subjects that were only touched on in his works. Many of these discussions, present-day classics in their fields, are comprehensive monographs in themselves. Often so much is brought to bear on the central topic from so many sources, and then related so clearly to the context, that these essays become works of reference for a much larger field. It is a contribution of the greatest value to preserve, and make it conveniently available, so much that is intensely useful from the life work of this remarkable man. SECOND SERIES: Following publication of the first series of Fenichel’s “Collected Papers”, covering the period 1922-1936, the present volume includes the writings which appeared from 1936 to the author’s death in 1946. In these later papers is revealed anew the breath of view, the lively perception, and the variety of interests that marked his earlier work. The significant essays explored many subjects that were only touched on in his books.
