Description: Tender is the Nightby F. Scott Fitzgerald First printing in a restored first issue dust jacket Publisher and Year: New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1934-Edition: The book is a first edition, first printing (per the "A" on the copyright page). The first issue dust jacket has three reviews on the front flap by Eliot, Mencken, and Rosenfeld (the second issue dust jacket had different reviews). The jacket has been restored (see below). Bibliographic reference: Bruccoli A15.I.a.-Condition and Description: 8vo in publisher's dark blue-green, textured cloth. 408pp. Decorations by Edward Shenton in text. Hinges and binding sturdy. Very slight spine lean. No writing or underlining. Boards show some staining, most prominently with angled lighting, as usual. Tips lightly bumped. Spine titles a little rubbed and darkened. Pages lightly tanned, but clean. The jacket has been thoroughly restored. The jacket panels and flaps are original, except where filled in at the folds and edges (including the price on the front flap and the "Charles Scribner's and Sons, New York" on the bottom of the rear panel), and have been color corrected. The spine is new. The last five pictures have the contrast set high to highlight these repairs. The dust jacket now presents as vibrant and near fine. An excellent copy of this American classic with great shelf appeal. -“One writes of scars healed, a loose parallel to the pathology of the skin, but there is no such thing in the life of an individual. There are open wounds, shrunk sometimes to the size of a pin-prick but wounds still. The marks of suffering are more comparable to the loss of a finger, or of the sight of an eye. We may not miss them, either, for one minute in a year, but if we should there is nothing to be done about it.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tender is the Night -Inventory ID: 625 - 276 - 692
