Description: Fitzgerald inscribed a friend's copy of Tender Is the Night, "If you liked The Great Gatsby, for God's sake read this. Gatsby was a tour de force but this is a confession of faith." Here we offer a true first edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's late masterpiece, what some say is his best novel, Tender Is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, published in 1934 by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York. This is a first edition, second print, which is indicated by the presence of the Scribner's seal, but no "A" under the copyright and no textual substitutions, so that it still has the first edition points of the uncorrected "Charles" rather than "Devereux" on p. 320, line 17 and "saland" rather than "salaud" on page 344, line 7. This print run was limited to 5,075 copies, and so is today quite scarce. The book comes wrapped in the highest quality facsimile of the first edition dust jacket that you can only get here, printed on coated heavyweight bond. The polymer coating on the paper ensures the brightest colors and sharpest prints, as the ink sits atop the paper rather than being absorbed into the fibers. Also included is a bookmark with collector's notes. Boards are soiled and worn (please see pics.) Intact endpapers are uninscribed, and, at rear, feature rubber-stamped numbers and a small star sticker. Foxing and light stains with dogears throughout. Binding is very tight and square. Text is very bright and crisp. Dust jacket comes sleeved in ph-neutral mylar, ready to slip into your collection. 408 pages. The book measures approximately 7.5 x 5.5-inches.This scarce, iconic American classic first edition will make a great addition to your collection or a very thoughtful gift.
