Description: THIS "copy" IS FROM THE ONLY ORIGINAL DRAWING KNOWN TO EXSIST. Up for auction is an extremely rare copy of a Murray, (Steelcraft), early concept sales drawing for their 1940 streamlined trucks. These trucks were only produced for one year and I believe this concept literature was never used. Steelcraft was a subsidiary of the Murray Manufacting Company, Murray is best known for its peddle cars and trucks. These trucks were designed by the world-famous Viktor Schreckengost in 1938 or 1939. This concept drawing was found in box containing hundreds of other early Murray Company drawings and documents in a North Iowa farm house estate. The copies are very clear and bright, my camera makes them appear blurry. Many of these drawings were for toys that were never mass produced; I may offer some of these drawings and literature at a later date. THE ONLY PROBLEM I SEE IN THIS DRAWING IS THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE WAS CUT OFF ON THE ORIGINAL SO THE COPIES WILL ALSO BE MISSING AN 1/16 OF An INCH OR SO. This is a copy made from the original drawing; it clearly shows Murray’s cost to produce these toys in pencil and is printed on heavy 8.5 x 11” card stock. For example, Murray’s cost to produce a dozen fire trucks was $7.20. I have other literature showing Cullum & Boren Company, (a toy distribution company), selling the fire truck for $21.60 per dozen whole sell. The print colors are vibrant and are suitable for framing. It’s hard to imagine that as little as ten years ago no one knew who made these wonderful trucks, many believed it was Wyandotte or Marx. There just wasn’t any reliable sales literature or information until now. I own all of the Steelcraft streamlined trucks, it’s fun to point out some of the differences between the concept drawing and the real toy. I don’t have the trucks in front of me; I hope memory serves me well. - The white ambulance isn’t shown at all. - On the drawing the dump truck doesn’t show any decals. The real toy dump truck has a decal that reads, “CITY TRUCKING”. I don't believe they ever made a red and yellow version of this truck I have only seen it in red/white or white/red. It never came with a yellow grill. - The bus shows a decal that read, “WORLDS – FAIR – SPECIAL – NEW YORK – SAN FRANCISCO”, the real toy has a decal that reads, “NEW YORK – SAN FRANCISCO”. - The city delivery truck never came with white tires and the rear wheel supports are part of the frame, like the first two trucks. - The fire truck never came with white tires and the real toy came with decals and if memory serves read, “CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT”, a small white fire helmet was also part of the decal. The rear wheel supports were part of the frame like the first two trucks.
