Mints: Philadelphia, San Francisco, Denver, New Orleans· The Barber series, which was prone to wear was replaced at nearly the same time by the Winged Liberty (Mercury) Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half-Dollar. Hermon A. MacNeil, a sculptor designed this coin. MacNeil is also known for sculpting the statue “Justice” a depiction of Liberty on the east pediment of the Supreme Court building.· The obverse features a right facing standing between two pedestals and holding a shield in her left arm. Variety one of the coin was considered “scandalous” as Liberty’s right breast was exposed. Public outcry caused a redesign which covered the offending anatomy in mid-1917. Following the close of 1924 mintage, another small redesign provided a small recessed area below the pedestal for the date which had previously been subject to early wear. · The reverse features a flying eagle as the central device. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the motto are centered above the eagle with thirteen stars between them and the denomination below. When the obverse was redesigned, the reverse had a similar small modification in 1917.Three stars were removed from the margin and moved to a space below the eagle. Average circulated – Liberty’s right leg and toes either worn off or flat. Wear evident on most drapery lines and left leg. Date is visible but worn.2. Choice– Garment lines may be worn across the design, but clear along margins. Lines across the right leg evident, toes are distinguishable to sharp.3. Extra Fine or About Uncirculated – Flattening only at high spots on the design. Slight wear on the kneecap, head, and center of shield.4. Uncirculated– Purchase from a source which uses one of the professional grading organizations. Do not trust ungraded coins which claim to be uncirculated.
