About the Book:One Way Ticket was made into a 1935 American crime film directed by Herbert Biberman starring Lloyd Nolan, Peggy Conklin and Walter Connolly. The film is based on the 1934 novel One-Way Ticket by Ethel Turner. It is a prison drama in which a man becomes a robber following the authorities' failure to convict a corrupt banker. It was the directorial debut of Biberman, a playwright and theatre director of Marxist political leanings; following some theatrical success in New York, he signed a two-picture deal with Columbia in 1934, and it was followed by Meet Nero Wolfe in 1936. Synopsis of the Novel:This is a prison story, told from the point of view of a girl who has been brought up in San Quentin prison, daughter of one of the guards, and who has taken the prison and its abnormal atmosphere for granted until a taste of the life outside makes her morbidly conscious of its differences. There are some good scenes and the background is convincingly portrayed. In view of the interest in prison material within the past year, this should have fair recognition. A dramatic tale in itself, and a promising first novel. Copyright © 2018-2022 TDM Inc. The photos and text in this listing are copyrighted.
