It is used in herbal medicine and contains alkaloids and flavonoids.The whole plant extract is considered emollient, analgesic, antimalarial, and antibacterial to staph, e-coli. The plant is used in treating Lyme disease and Lyme co-infections. The root is antifungal. For medicinal use, grow this plant only in clean areas as it takes out the heavy metals etc from the soil. Scarify the seeds between sandpaper before planting. You may plant out in the fall for spring germination or give 2 to 4 weeks of cold refrigeration, then press seeds onto moist soil and keep moist and in light until germination which can be between 5-21 days.
