Description: Laura Shapiro, Julia Child, Viking Penguin, First Edition 2007, in excellent condition, hardcover, inscribed by Shapiro. This is one of the Penguin series of short (usually around 200 pages) biographies whose general editor was James Atlas. A great series, it engaged top authorities (who also could write entertainingly) for biographies of noted men and women. Here Shapiro, a journalist and historian (of cooking!), gives us the life of the most famous American celebrity teaching chef—Julia Child. Her path from party girl to clerk of a spy office during World War II to the television star who brought French cooking to America is detailed, warts and all, but sympathetically about a formidable woman whose name is etched in the history of American cooking. And this is a very nice copy, a first edition, and signed by Shapiro. Signed copies are not often seen. A book all persons interested in American cooking should have and anyone would enjoy. Excuse any shadows in my photos of the text, that is my poor photography— all the text is clean and bright. Shipped only to locations in the United States. Shipping free of charge.
