Description: This is a fully polished piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber with a lovely orange color that contains a Sand fly with very long legs, a rare predatory Enicocephalid (gnat bug), and a jumping ground bug from the Cretaceous Period. Enicocephalids are known insect predators today and have a piercing proboscis. These insects would have been on the Earth when dinosaurs still walked including T-Rex and Triceratops! The piece itself weighs 2.7 grams with approximate dimensions of 2.2 cm length by 1.5 cm width and 1 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch.Please mouse over or click on images to see a larger view. This piece is genuine amber formed over millions of years of polymerization. Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs and is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).
