Description: Beautiful, ruby tubular flowers attract a large number of hummingbirds during the summer-through-fall blooming season. Flowers emerge all along the stems and create a sensational show for the gardener to enjoy. Iochromas are in the same family as brugmansias and are often called “Mini Angel's Trumpets.” Grow iochromas in full sun with frequent applications of water-soluble fertilizer to maintain consistent blooming. This is a brief guide to Iochroma. There is increasing interest in Iochromas which are late spring-summer flowering shrubs. Only six of the 24 or so Iochroma species are in general cultivation but between them, and their hybrids, they give a wide range of flower colors in shades of blue, purple, red, orange, white and more. The flowers do not smell but are nonetheless attractive to hummingbirds in the US. The plants are moderately hardy. I have mine growing in a container and it has withstood temperatures in the mid-twenties without damage, and without ceasing to bloom.. Shrubs get to four feet tall and wide and are nearly always in bloom. They are a great plant for attracting hummingbirds. Can be grown in containers in colder climates and brought in by a sunny window for the winter. They still bloom indoors. This is for 5 fresh organic seeds with growing instructions.
