Royal Vienna Style Signed Pohle Richard Wagner Portrait & Raised Gold Plate

Description: Royal Vienna Style Signed Pohle Richard Wagner Portrait & Raised Gold Plate Beautiful antique cabinet plate. Decorated with a hand painted central portrait of the composer Richard Wagner. With a blue, green, and pink border with blue, white, and crimson red vignettes with raised gold flowers, scrollwork and gold beading. Signed by the artist Pohle. Probably by Friedrich Leon Pohle. He became a teacher at the Dresden Academy in 1877 and later professor. He made his name as a portrait artist at this time. He won several gold medals at local exhibitions. The signature looks similar to works of his on oil of canvas; however, I have not been able to locate another piece of porcelain with this signature. Has the Vienna beehive mark company copied by many porcelain factories in Germany during the late 19th century and many plates of this Royal Vienna style were decorated in Dresden. Has some minor wear to the gilding and a few small losses to the beading that are hardly noticeable and do not really detract from the plate. Otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. Measure approximately 9 1/2 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
