Description: Here is a GREAT macro/micro lens for just about ANY camera (film or digital), and ANY format size -- the Rodenstock Eurygon 35mm f4.0. This lens is frequently listed as an enlarging lens, but it is not. It was designed as a macro/micro lens to be used on large format cameras – but works perfectly well with medium format and even smaller formats and sensors. It's rear mount is NOT a 39mm/Leica enlarging thread. It is a 40mm thread – the same as that of the Copal #1 shutter. How you use this lens depends on your existing camera equipment. Let's start with large and some medium format gear. If you have a camera with a front shutter having a 40mm front lens element thread, such as a #1 Copal shutter, you are all set. Simply remove the glass elements in the shutter and screw this Rodenstock Eurygon 35mm in its place. What magnification you can achieve depends on the amount of extension you have – but you can go from about 1:1 life size to about 30 times life size -- or higher. If your shutter has a different sized thread, you can use this lens with an appropriate adapter, such as Copal #3 to Copal #1 or Copal #0 to Copal #1 (NOT INCLUDED). This lens has a FRONT filter thread of 39mm, so it is easy to use any filter you want, although you might need to get a step-up ring to your standard filter size (NOT included). The FOURTH FROM THE LAST photo shows this lens mounted on a Copal #1 shutter on a Toko 4x5” camera. If you have a camera with a smaller format (or sensor), you can use this lens IF your camera has a removable lens -- such as SLR's from Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Konica, Panasonic, Sigma, Minolta, Sony, etc. Just about anything. You will probably need an adapter or two. You will also need a means of creating extension between the lens and your camera body. This can be a bellows or a set of extension tubes -- or both! If your camera has a TTL (Through the Lens) meter, like most do, it will do the necessary exposure correction for you -- or you can do it yourself. As mentioned, the Rodenstock Eurygon 35mm has a FRONT filter thread of 39mm, so you can use this lens REVERSED on cameras with removable lenses. Most camera companies make Reverse Adapters. These have a lens REAR lens mount on one side, and a filter thread on the other. All you need is a reverse adapter for your camera (NOT included), and probably a step-UP ring FROM 39mm – for this lens to your standard filter size. The THIRD FROM THE LAST photo shows this lens REVERSE-mounted using a 39mm-to-55mm step-UP ring, which is attached to a Minolta 55mm reversing ring – and then placed on a Minolta bellows and a Phenix 35mm SLR camera (NOT included). Reverse-mounting of enlarging lenses is very common in macro/micro photography. Don't believe me – just do a web search for “photocornucopia”. One thing that makes THIS 35mm lens stand out when compared to using other 35mm enlarging lens is the HUGE rear element of this lens. It provides for MUCH more coverage. The FIFTH FROM THE LAST photo shows the rear element of this lens (left) compared to the rear element of a Schneider Componon 35mm f4.0 enlarging lens (right). The diameter of this Rodenstock is 50% wider, and the area is 100% larger than the Schneider's. The last photo shows a picture taken with a Rodenstock Eurygon 35mm f4.0 lens. Again, depending on your setup and the amount of extension that you have available, you can go from about 1:1 life size to about 30 times life size -- or higher! The f4.0 maximum aperture produces a bright image on the ground glass or in the viewfinder -- for EASY focusing, but like all lenses, it is best to stop down to about f8 during the exposure for the best possible resolution. You might want to stop down even more to get more depth of field -- which is pretty darn thin at high magnifications. This lens has been used -- but you would hardly know it. I checked it out for cleanliness and complete operation. It is in great cosmetic shape -- and acts like new. The glass is like new -- no dust, fungus, separation, scratches, etc. Please examine the pictures for more detail. Only minor signs of use on the body. The f-stop ring turns like new. No oil on the diaphragm. The detents are perfect and snap into place easily. If you have any questions, please ask me. NO RESERVE.
