Description: Colonel Henry T Sisson was a native of of Little Compton, RI at Sakonnet Point; his home is now the site of the Stone House Inn. He enlisted with the 1st RIDM in 1861 and rose to Colonel of the 5th Rhode Island Heavy Artillery. Sisson was an active combat commander incl the Battles of Bull Run, Secessionville, SC., Roanoke Island, Fort Macon, Kinston, Goldsboro, Whitehall and at Little Washington, North Carolina.. He was honored with a life size statue erected by the State of Rhode Island at historic Commons Cemetery. An original Civil War Union Army NCO Commission issued to Sergeant James E Bowen, D Company, 5th Rhode Island Artillery at New Bern, North Carolina Feb 23, 1864 with Federal eagle illus and signed by Colonel Sisson as 5th RIHA Commander, also signed by Lt James M Wheaton of the 5th.
