Description: These postcards were used mainly in the pre-internet era, during much of the 20th century, to request reprints or “off-prints” of articles, typically published in scientific journals. Those offered here were primarily addressed from one scientist to another, often peer-to-peer, in related disciplines, from the 1960s through the 1990s. Requesters were often graduate students and post-docs, but also those in the sciences who didn’t have libraries at their disposal, or wanted the hard-copy without having to make photocopies. Sometimes the request cards were returned to the requester (upon request). Some reprint request cards bear postage meters, some bear stamps. Some are from domestic sources, some from international.
