Description: Baldwin Locomotive Works was one of the premier builders of locomotives around the world. From 1898-1921 they issued 100 beautifully illustrated and meticulously detailed pamphlets on their products. [We have and are offering for sale 60 of the 100 pamphlets entitled, Record of Recent Construction, Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia. These were originally Pennsylvania RR file copies but became the private collection of Paul Seel, Chief Mechanical Engineer for the Pennsylvania RR from the 1930's to the 1960's. Some contain notes, in his hand, correcting details of the publications.] This early copy is a 9 by 6 pamphlet. Shown are front and back cover, first title with full title "Record of Recent Construction No. 52 Forged and Rolled Steel Wheels manufactured by The Standard Steel Works, Harrison Building, Philadelphia, Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia PA 1905 code word, RECOQUEBAT. " Then there are two full page black and white photos, "Forged and Rolled Steel Wheels awaiting Shipment, Standard Steel Works," and "Standard Steel Works, Burnham, Mifflin County, PA". Next is the fourth picture above showing page 4 which begins a long explication of the necessity of creating new wheels for now heavier rail vehicles. The fifth picture above is page 11 of that essay detailing how Standard Steel Works and Baldwin Locomotive Works have solved the problem with the forged and rolled steel wheels. The essay ends at page 16. The sixth photo above starts a series of schematics for the rolled steel wheels for steam railway service followed by 4 pages for rolled steel wheels for electric traction service.
