Display is a little bright but doesn't bother me. Hoping it lasts! Old school is the way to go! We've tried fancier alarm clocks that have sputtered out in a very short amount of time, so getting something that is more expensive with all of the bells and whistles does not equal better. The green display is not blinding bright and yes, the alarm is loud but it's meant to wake you from sleep to start your day. We have no complaints with this little slice of heaven and would most definitely purchase again. Very solid product and very reasonably priced! I love this clock w/ alarm just small enough to fit on my shelf next to my Joey and the green light up time can seen across the room
