Description: VERY RARE Original Antique WWI 1918 Linen Battlefield Barrage Map of FranceOwned & Used by Canadian Officer, Shows Hindenburg Line & Variety of Army Lines/TRENCHES Superimposed on Map DESCRIPTION: Scans show it all....extremely rare ORIGINAL WWI "Segment Map" of France, DATED AUG. 25, 1918. Specifically, Sheet 51b, Edition 2. Shows on front where it fits in to other adjoining maps and sheets. Scale is 1:40,000. Divided into square segments identified from A through X. This was meant to be used by Artillery troops to help zero in on targets. They were obviously periodically updated as the battlefield and troop lines changed.This is a really nice one, showing THE HINDENBURG LINE, BRITISH LINES, ENEMY LINES, etc. Also several major cities and features (such as rivers, forests, etc.) in this sector. Includes Arras, Brebieres, Oisy, etc. ABSOUTELY SHOWS EVERY DETAIL COMPLETELY. Also other notations regarding the battlefield, showing hazards, comments such as "all trenches are wired", with dates, etc., etc. ALSO A NUMBER OF PENCILLED NOTES WRITTEN BY THE OWNER !!!Backed by linen for greater stability in field conditions and with constant use.Best part is that I have the name of the Canadian Artillery officer who owned and used this and brought it home along with a couple of other maps and souvenirs. He was an artillery lieutenant, and his name will be provided to the lucky buyer. I currently have one of his other maps on ebay.He also wrote a handwritten note about his superior's death and how he was the last person to see him alive. I WILL ATTACH A COPY OF THIS HANDWRITTEN NOTE WITH THE MAP!This has minor wear on the bottom and on one corner (folded) resulting in the holes seen. Not too large and can be repaired or backed up if desired. Still does not greatly detract from the RARITY AND DESIRIBILITY OF THIS ITEM!!!A VERY RARE ITEM TO STILL FIND. Will look great with any collection or display, on any wall. Overall map size is approximately 25" x 36". Has great eye appeal to decorate any period wall or collection display.
