Description: This is a rare World War I patient made basket from Camp Mills Base Hospital on Long Island, NY 1919. Soldiers who were patients would weave baskets in occupational therapy to help treat the symptoms of shell shock. (Today known as PTSD) This is where the term “basket case” originated from. The basket is perfect for collectors of WWI memorabilia and those interested in the history of Camp Mills Base Hospital. Basket is 11 1/2”across base. 9 1/2” at opening and 3 1/2” tall. From an estate auction in CT. Feel free to message me with any questions.
