Description: This is an early and Very RARE Vintage Italian Cubist Maggio Art Exhibition Lithograph Poster, dating to the early 1970's, for Pablo Picasso's exhibition at the Anthea galleria dell'arte Maggio in Lecco, Lombardia, Italy. This poster prominently features Picasso's famous 1936 work, Faun Revealing a Sleeping Woman, his last print from the series known as the Suite Vollard. I have only seen one other example ever for sale online, and it was hand numbered out of an edition of 400. This poster is presumably numbered out of an edition for 400 as well, but this numbering would be covered by the matting if it is indeed there. I have not attempted to open the original period frame. Approximately 28 3/4 x 33 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual poster is approximately 22 1/2 x 28 1/2 inches. Good condition for age, with some moderate scuffing and oxidation to the original period frame and glass. Poster and matting have some subtle waviness at the top and lower edge, likely from being in the frame for so long (please see photos.) Acquired from an affluent old collection in Los Angeles, California. Priced to sell. This would be a superb edition to any Picasso or Modern Art collection. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks! About the Artist: Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) was active/lived in Spain, France. Pablo Picasso is known for Cubist painting and printmaking. Perhaps the most influential artist of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso may be best known for pioneering Cubism and fracturing the two-dimensional picture plane in order to convey three-dimensional space. Inspired by African and Iberian art, he also contributed to the rise of Surrealism and Expressionism. Picasso’s sizable oeuvre grew to include over 20,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, theater sets, and costume designs. He painted his most famous work, Guernica (1937), in response to the Spanish Civil War; the totemic grisaille canvas remains a definitive work of anti-war art. At auction, a number of Picasso’s paintings have sold for more than $100 million. The indefatigable artist has been the subject of exhibitions at the world’s most prestigious institutions, from the Museum of Modern Art and Centre Pompidou to the Stedelijk Museum and Tate Modern.
