Description: Extremely rare Benjamin Rawls Southern Coin Silver serving spoon. This spoon was made by Benjamin Rawls in Columbia, SC from 1815-1850. This spoon is incredibly crafted and is still in great condition with exception to a bowl crack and normal wear from use. Monogrammed "MJNB". One of very few surviving examples of Rawls Coin Silver. 9" 61.3 g. This spoon was purchased in a set of eight in North Carolina and must have been a wedding gift for a family member in the early 1800s. A glimpse of early 1800s Americana is given by the mix of makers on each spoon as most of the spoons are different North Carolina or South Carolina 1820's silversmiths. It seems that the spoons were either bought secondhand from a dealer or were bought here and there as they could afford them. Two spoons have the "LAB" monogram and the other six have "MJNB" A picture of the set is included, you are receiving the one circled in the image. Shipped in layered boxes. Insured.
