Description: This extremely RARE Cambridge Caprice Handled Basket overlaid with sterling silver is a beautiful piece of elegant glass. It was originally manufactured by the Cambridge Glass Company in Cambridge, Ohio at some point before 1953, as the basket is based on a 4-footed bowl that was replaced by a 3-footed bowl about 1953. The handle is a loop of class that was applied by hand to the bowl after it was crimped. The decorative sterling silver overlay was probably applied by a silver decorating firm that bought the basket(s), and likely other pieces, from Cambridge, added the overlay, and then sold the pieces. There is no known catalog number for it, so Cambridge probably did not sell it. It could have been a special order or a piece that did not sell well in the market and was quickly discontinued. In any case, I and the most senior Caprice collectors have never seen or even heard of another; there is only the one, though it stands to reason more of them exist. Shipping is higher than usual as it will be shipped double-boxed, with insurance.
